Log :
Today President Janet Dudley Eshbach gave a speech regarding diversity at Salisbury University. The PR office was very hectic until most of the office (Katie, Jason and Richard) left to go to the press conference. Megan and I were the only ones left in the office so we watched her speech live streaming on the internet. Today I learned that, along with her other many duties, Megan is in charge of the social media for SU. She tweets and updates their Facebook and sees all of the tweets and messages that students send to the university. Today I also learned how to use the printer to scan articles into the computer so that they have electronic copies as well as hard copies. After scanning I entered the articles information into its excel file for the SU clips database and linked the clips information with the PDF copy.
Reflection :
Dr. Janet rapped during her speech and I thought that it was really funny and a cute way to grab students attention. I also thought it was interesting that the PR office has so much to do with announcements from the presidents office and get to be involved with her speech as much as they do. It was interesting to hear what dealing with social media was like from Megan’s perspective. While other areas of the school (Like admissions) can be more relaxed and fun with their social media, on Salisbury University’s social media has to remain professional. That is why most of the tweets are associated with any school closings or upcoming events. Now looking at social media from the perspective of a professional instead of a student, It was really interesting and funny to watch SU’s social media and mentions blowing up after Dr.Janet’s rap.
