Log :

Today I learned how to draft emails for hometowns. They are similar to sending press releases to the media, but they have a lot more press releases attached to each email since each there is one for each child in that newspapers region. I do not send them out yet though because there are still more press releases which need to be edited and corrected since kids brought in their information sheets at different times. The office has been very busy, which is why people in the office have not had time to edit them yet. Once those are completed I will add those press releases into my already drafted emails.

After that I filed UMES/Other clips into their binder and logged them into their Exel file. I then sorted and copied messy clips, sent out a press release for Jason and posted the press release onto the website. Because there was nothing else for me to do at the moment, I then linked and described the old SU clips, some of which had been messed up because of people changing the names of files/folders which had already been linked in the Exel files. Megan and I also discussed cutting back my hours for the rest of the semester today. We agreed that, because I have already obtained almost all of the hours I am required to have for my practicum, I could shorten my hours for the rest of the semester. Instead of coming in for nine hours a week ( five hours on Wednesdays and four hours on Thursdays), I would now only come in for four hours on Wednesdays and not come in on Thursdays.

Reflection :

Although I enjoy coming in and working at the PR office, cutting back my hours will be very helpful for me as the semester comes to a close and I will need more time to spend on studying for exams and doing final projects. I feel like I have already learned so much from working here and it has just made me more excited to learn more about PR in my upper level classes and pursue this as a career. I am very grateful for the opportunity to gain this much experience with people who are so knowledgable and easy to get along with.
